Peruvian grapes and blueberries will continue to be the 'boom' in global markets in 2021

Oscar Quiñones, head of the Institute for Research and Development of Foreign Trade of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima (CCL), indicated that these fruits have been consolidated in European and American markets.
Peruvian fruit exports will continue to rise this year. And the star crops will once again be grapes that would register shipments for US $ 1,214.5 million, that is, a growth of 16% compared to last year, while blueberries would achieve US $ 1,113.7 million, which is equivalent to an increase of 11 %, as projected by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
For the head of the Institute for Research and Development of Foreign Trade of the Chamber of Commerce of Lima (CCL), Oscar Quiñones, this projected performance demonstrates the consolidation of Peruvian products in the European and US markets.
"We are the first supplier of blueberries in the United States and the European market is growing little by little," said the representative of the CCL.
He added that blueberries in January and February had a growth of 25.8% in value (US $ 45 million), while in volume they increased by 11.9% (8,150 tons). Export destinations include the US, the Netherlands, the UK and Hong Kong.

In the last six seasons, Peru has had quite aggressive growth in the export of blueberries, which has made it for the second consecutive season the main exporter of fresh blueberries in the world with a total of 162,459 tons exported in the 2020-2021 period for the amount of US $ 1,000 million.
The ProArandanos manager explained that the blueberry campaigns in Peru are covering more and more weeks, starting in May and continuing until March of the following year. 90% of the volume exported by Peru is concentrated between the months of August and December, with September, October and November being the main months of export. The main blueberry export market for Peru is the United States, where a little more than half of what is exported worldwide is sent, followed by Europe, where around 35% is sent, followed by Asia, mainly China. where about 11% is shipped and other destinations below 1%.
